  Scotland’s most northerly mainland whisky distillery, opened in September 2022 in John O’Groats by founders Kerry and Derek Campbell. The name refers to the legend of Jan De Groot and his eight-sided house. While its own single malt matures, it sells Seven Sons whiskies and Five Ways liqueur; tours and a whisky lounge are open seven days a week from 10am.

  Distillery in Wick on Scotland’s far north coast, founded in 1826 by James Henderson and named after Pulteneytown. Old Pulteney is marketed as The Maritime Malt, matured in open warehouses shaped by salt-laden coastal air. Water comes from Loch Hempriggs via a lade built by Thomas Telford; the distillery offers tours.
